Principal Civil Engineer
Integrated planning, design and delivery for drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure across the South Island.
OUR PROCESS
Our civil, environmental, planning, geotechnical, surveying and construction specialists work as one team. We assess demand, risk, ground conditions, receiving environments and regulatory requirements early, then translate the findings into solutions that enable reliable services and support resilient communities and long-term value.
We help shape the outcome, investigate existing assets and site conditions, and identify any demand, capacity, environmental, cultural, consenting and delivery constraints.
We test options using network hydraulics, hydrology, flooding and groundwater analysis, helping clients prioritise investment and select solutions that work now and adapt over time.
We turn the preferred option into coordinated, construction-ready designs, integrating civil, environmental, geotechnical, planning and surveying inputs to streamline approvals and reduce delivery risk.
We support procurement, contract administration, construction monitoring, commissioning and handover, working closely with clients and contractors to help resolve any issues and protect design intent.
OUR SERVICES
We support drinking water projects from source and capacity assessment through to detailed design and construction. Our team undertakes demand forecasting, network modelling and options assessment, then design treatment, pumping, storage and reticulation solutions.
By considering water quality, pressure, resilience, growth, ground conditions, consenting and whole-of-life operation together, we help councils, developers and communities make informed decisions and deliver safe, reliable networks that can adapt as needs change.
We plan and design wastewater systems that respond to capacity, growth, site conditions and the receiving environment. Our experience includes gravity and pressure networks, low-pressure sewer systems, pump stations, treatment upgrades and onsite treatment and disposal. We assess existing constraints, test options and coordinate civil, geotechnical, environmental, planning and surveying input. This produces buildable solutions that reduce operational risk, support compliance and allow assets to be staged or expanded as demand changes.
Our stormwater work combines hydrology, hydraulic and flood modelling with practical design and environmental insight. We assess catchments, overland flow paths, network capacity and climate risk, then develop solutions for conveyance, attenuation, treatment and safe discharge. These may include reticulation, swales, wetlands, first-flush systems, detention basins and erosion and sediment controls. We work with clients, councils and mana whenua to create resilient, site-responsive outcomes that protect people, property, waterways and downstream environments.
Good investment decisions start with a clear picture of how a network performs now and under future demand. We use hydraulic pipe network and 2D flood modelling to identify capacity constraints, test growth and climate scenarios, and compare upgrade or adaptation options. Our analysis supports feasibility studies, business cases, asset planning and staged capital programmes. We translate technical findings into practical recommendations so decision-makers can understand trade-offs, prioritise investment and plan infrastructure with greater confidence.
We design pump stations, treatment systems and pressure and gravity networks as coordinated assets, not isolated components. Our teams consider hydraulics, ground conditions, structures, access, maintenance, safety, construction sequencing and future capacity from the outset. We can support options assessment, detailed design, procurement, construction monitoring, commissioning and handover. Close collaboration with operators, clients and contractors helps resolve issues early and delivers infrastructure that is practical to build, operate, maintain and adapt.
Our environmental scientists and planners work alongside engineers to understand water quality, groundwater, surface water, discharge effects and receiving environments. We provide investigations, monitoring programmes, effects assessments, consenting strategy, consent applications, compliance reporting and environmental management advice. Bringing this expertise into a project early helps identify risks, shape better options and avoid late redesign. We work constructively with clients, regulators, mana whenua and other stakeholders to achieve solutions that are technically robust, realistic and environmentally responsible.

FAQ
We support drinking water, wastewater and stormwater projects from feasibility and options assessment through modelling, concept and detailed design, consenting, procurement, construction support, commissioning and handover. Our work includes treatment and reticulation, pump stations, pressure and gravity networks, flood management, sustainable drainage and environmental monitoring.
Early involvement gives clients the greatest ability to influence cost, risk and long-term performance. We can help at business-case or feasibility stage to test capacity, site constraints, servicing options and regulatory requirements before a preferred solution or investment pathway is locked in.
Yes. We investigate existing assets, model current and future demand, identify capacity and flood risks, and assess practical upgrade or adaptation options. This can support asset planning, growth, climate resilience, renewals, funding decisions and staged delivery.
Yes. Our planners, environmental scientists, engineers, surveyors and geotechnical specialists work together through consenting and delivery. We can provide tender and procurement support, contract administration, construction monitoring, site advice, as-built surveys, commissioning support and documentation for handover.
