The brief
The Pōhara subdivision is located in Pōhara, Mōhua (Golden Bay). It covers an area of approximately 6.3 hectares and includes 71 new residential lots, along with a detention dam to support flood resilience across the wider Pōhara township.
Our primary objective was to enhance flood resilience within this vibrant township.
What We Did
We conducted a comprehensive geotechnical assessment, carefully evaluating the suitability of the subdivision and its structural integrity. With a deep understanding of the project's unique challenges and opportunities, we also undertook the detailed design of the retaining and dam structures.
The detention dam is a critical component of the development, spanning 70 metres wide and reaching a height of nine metres. It has a maximum capacity of 13,000 m3, effectively reducing the risk of flooding to the surrounding community.
Throughout the construction process, we carefully monitored every stage of earthworks to ensure design specifications and the highest standards of quality were met, supporting the delivery of this essential flood resilience project.
