Ōpuke Hot Pools

The Brief

Our role supported the successful delivery of the project, which involved the construction of modern thermal pools and spa facilities, along with a café, retail shops, a bar and a solar farm. 

What We Did

Our planning team played a vital role in preparing and managing resource consents throughout the construction and operational phases of the Ōpuke Hot Pools project.

We worked closely with the project team to secure the necessary consents for stormwater discharges from the site. To meet the project’s tight timeframe, the consenting process was strategically staged, allowing construction to progress while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. 

Our geotechnical engineering team conducted comprehensive investigation and reporting services. From supervising shallow investigations, developing a geological ground model through to conducting natural hazard assessments and developing appropriate structural founding solutions to enable the structural integrity of the facility. The geotechnical role extended into the construction phase, where they conducted subgrade testing and observed the placement of structural fill.

The civil engineering aspect of the project was crucial in designing a robust stormwater treatment and discharge system for various areas, including the carparking, solar array, and hardstand area. Our civil engineering team took charge of this task, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and providing technical support for the Environment Canterbury (ECan) consent process related to discharges to the ground. Their expertise enabled the efficient management of stormwater runoff, minimising potential environmental impacts.
