The Brief
We were engaged to provide land surveying services to help digitally capture selected filming locations across the Waitaki and Mackenzie Districts. The survey data was required to support the accurate recreation of real-world landscapes within an offsite studio environment for a major live-action film production.
Challenges Identified
The filming locations covered vast and varied landscapes, requiring extensive surveying across multiple remote sites. The scale and complexity of the terrain meant large volumes of detailed data needed to be captured and managed while still maintaining accuracy suitable for digital recreation and integration into a studio-based production environment.
What We Did
Our Timaru team had the incredible opportunity to contribute to a major live-action film production by delivering detailed land surveying services. We used UAV drones and topographical survey technology to capture data across locations, including Omarama Clay Cliffs, Ahuriri Valley, terrace flats and high-country tarns. We supplied textured and coloured point cloud survey data, helping the production team to accurately recreate these landscapes within their offsite studio and seamlessly integrate real-world locations into the final production.
