The Brief

Our Timaru and Christchurch teams embarked on a significant project, using 3D laser scanning to breathe new life into the historic Grosvenor Hotel in Timaru. Our client sought a seismic assessment for earthquake strengthening but faced a challenge - the absence of suitable building plans for this 140-year-old heritage gem.

What We Did

The Grosvenor Hotel holds significant heritage value, but without adequate building plans, a seismic assessment seemed impossible. Using 3D laser scanning, the team captured an accurate and realistic render of the building's façade. This, along with internal survey work, was required to create a comprehensive digital representation of the building needed for the structural assessment.

Key Deliverables
  • The 3D model served as a valuable tool for detailed as-built documentation, facilitating the structural assessment. It also helped in the preparation of floor plans and proposed strengthening works.
  • The scanning technology created an accurate record of this historical façade.
