Leading our Wānaka office is Joe Turner, a long-standing member of the DO team and keen mountain biker.

Joe has more than a decade of experience with Davis Ogilvie and has spent the past seven years as West Coast Engineering Manager, delivering projects across a wide range of environments and working closely with councils, contractors and clients. He recently relocated to Wānaka from the West Coast to head up our newest office.

He began his career as a survey assistant before moving into civil engineering as a technician, and has since developed strong expertise in civil engineering design, infrastructure delivery, flood resilience, consent support and project coordination, along with trusted working relationships across regional New Zealand.

He now brings that experience to Wānaka and, with extensive back-country experience including work as an Alpine Guide in Fox Glacier and competition at a national level in downhill mountain biking, is a natural fit for the region.

Nigel is a survey technician based in our Greymouth office, with close to 20 years’ experience working at Davis Ogilvie. He specialises in surveying work for urban and rural subdivisions, as well as engineering and building setouts. 

His work also includes a range of survey types, including legalisation, easement, redefinition and topographical surveys. In addition to his work in Greymouth, Nigel supports our Christchurch geotechnical team with site investigations across the West Coast. 

John is enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable in all aspects of surveying, with a strong focus on delivering the best outcome for his clients.

John is a Licensed Surveyor whose work spans a range of land development and construction projects across the South Island - from early planning and survey definition, through to title issue.

His experience includes rural and urban surveying, greenfield developments, rentable area surveys, construction surveying and project management. He's worked on commercial and residential developments, healthcare projects and large-scale subdivisions, often in roles that extend beyond survey work and involve coordination across wider project teams and stakeholders.

John also supports specialist land development projects that require engagement with planning decisions, resource consent applications and civil engineering design for neighbourhoods, and has experience liaising with councils and solicitors on land transfer matters.

John has been a member of the Canterbury Board of Survey + Spatial New Zealand since 2013 and has served as Chair since 2024.
