Peter Smale
Engineering Geologist
Based in: Christchurch
Peter is an engineering geologist based in Christchurch and has been part of our team since 2013. Before joining us, he worked as a field geologist in the oil and gold industries in Australia, bringing that field-based experience into his geotechnical work in New Zealand.
His work focuses on site investigations for residential and commercial properties and subdivisions across Canterbury, the West Coast and Nelson. This includes desk studies, site investigation, analysis, design and reporting, with geotechnical reports covering shallow and deep ground investigation and geological hazard assessment for subdivisions, including liquefaction susceptibility and foundation recommendations.
Peter also undertakes peer reviews for legal cases. Following the Canterbury and Kaikōura earthquakes, he provided geotechnical advice to insurers and clients to help resolve disputes in private and commercial settings.
