Gareth Oddy
Technical Director - Environmental Scientist
Based in: Christchurch
Technically great at all things environmental, particularly asbestos.
Gareth leads our environmental science team and specialises in the identification of contaminated sites and their remediation, management and safe use.
His experience includes investigation, risk assessment, remediation and consenting, and sites associated with chemical manufacturing, aviation, waste management, heavy and light manufacturing, transport, downstream oil and gas, timber treatment as well as defence sites in New Zealand and internationally.
With a background in contaminant hydrogeology, Gareth helps evaluate the potential effects of land contamination on groundwater and surrounding surface water receptors. He’s a Certified Environmental Practitioner Site Contamination Specialist (CEnvP SC) and prepares contaminated land assessment reports to meet NESCS requirements.
Gareth also holds qualifications in asbestos surveying and management. He supported local and central government and private clients following the Canterbury and Kaikōura earthquakes, and also assists with planning refurbishments or demolition where asbestos‑containing materials may be present.
