DO successfully secured a LINZ tender for the legal survey of Simons Pass Pastoral Lease. The survey encompassed a vast area of 5,500 hectares, including developed parcels with intensive agricultural activities and pivot irrigation systems. The precise location of new boundaries was determined based on factors such as the centre of pivots, irrigator length, and spray drift assessment. This ensured the separation of proposed freehold land from Crown-owned conservation areas while preserving the natural character of the landscape visible from the highway.

Within the freehold areas, specific measures were implemented to protect identified plant species through conservation covenants. Public access was maintained through the creation of rights of way, allowing people to appreciate and enjoy these sites.

Additionally, a comprehensive survey of several kilometres of the formed highway was conducted to legalise the road. The alignment of the current formation differed significantly from the original road dating back to the 1880s. Our team were skilled in locating or reproducing survey marks from 1882 and earlier surveys, even discovering well-preserved boundary pegs along ancient fence lines, protected from disturbance.

The surveying process was intensive, with long days from sunrise to sunset spent on-site, taking advantage of the breathtaking views of Aoraki Mt Cook and the remarkable conditions that exemplify the beauty of our country. The project showcased the best of the Mackenzie Country, where our team navigated complex challenges and delivered precise surveying solutions.

Through our expertise and dedication, we ensured the successful completion of this significant survey, contributing to the responsible management and development of Simons Pass Pastoral Lease.
