Davis Ogilvie were engaged by Selwyn District Council (SDC) to manage the design and delivery of the Shands Road Intersection Upgrade, a contract partially funded by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA). It involved the construction of two new arterial roundabouts at the intersections of Shands and Trents Roads, and Shands and Hamptons Roads in Prebbleton – a growing town in Selwyn District in Canterbury.

Working as a multidisciplinary team, we provided a range of services drawing on our expertise in civil and geotechnical engineering, environmental science, and surveying. This significant development also included collaboration with other consultancies, including Novo Group for traffic engineering, Glasson Huxtable for landscape architecture, and Connetics for streetlighting design.

The scope of the project was later expanded to include the design and delivery of a 2 km watermain down Shands Road, as well as the delivery of the Trents Road seal widening and a watermain extension, with the design prepared by SDC.

We also facilitated the role of Engineers Representative, which saw us undertake all contract administration and construction monitoring duties.

During the project, our LiDAR drone was often out on site, taking arial photographs that captured the progress being made – see our timelapse video below.

We’re incredibly proud of working alongside our SDC to help improve the safety, efficiency and connectivity of their roading network.
