Samantha has over 30 years’ experience in ground engineering consultancy and is passionate about robust field investigations, problem solving and helping clients understand the ground model before embarking on engineering design. Based out of Christchurch, she has worked on projects from Bluff to Gisborne, to the Chatham Islands. She provides clients with practical solutions and assists with good facilitation and communication between parties to convey the engineering geology risks and how they relate to the technical requirements and project objectives. She can scale up and scale down depending on the budget and the technical complexity of the project.
Investigations have ranged from simple shallow penetrometer tests, to test pitting, to rock face logging and risk assessment, to full soil and rock coring with instrumentation with on-going monitoring and downhole geophysics tools. Samantha excels during construction in finding practical solutions to unforeseen ground conditions. Construction projects range from subgrade inspections to earthworks to temporary slope stabilisation with soil anchors to the installation of full-scale working anchors.
Samantha has a significant amount of stopbank upgrade, design, and construction work from the Avon River, to the Rangitaiki, to the Waipaoa River and more recently the Grey River. She has worked in the Christchurch residential space before, during and since the Canterbury Earthquakes and has a wealth of local knowledge. Her career highlights include a track stability inspection on Managere Island, the Black Robin sanctuary, and temporary works inspections of the 52 m high rock reinforced Waimea Dam in Lees Valley, Brightwater.
