Bjorn is experienced in seismic engineering and geotechnical investigations for earth structures, ground improvements, and foundations across residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. He has worked in diverse geological conditions across Africa and Oceania, including New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Liberia, and Botswana.
Bjorn is particularly interested in assessing and modelling the hazards associated with rockfall and debris flows. For several years Bjorn was a member of the slope stability emergency panel involved in call-out duties to the Christchurch Port Hills and North Canterbury (Kaikoura) area to evaluate potential risks of natural hazards to structures and human life. Bjorn has assessed the characteristics of several landslides and cliff collapse hazards from Pareora Gorge, to the West Coast and Nelson, to the Port Hills suburbs of Christchurch. Bjorn is well versed in 2D modelling and characterisation of these natural hazards and has developed remediation plans in consultation with clients to provide long-term passive protective measures to mitigate these hazards for future residential and infrastructure development.
Bjorn is also experienced in assessing and providing practical solutions for pathways in achieving code compliance and is currently a member of the Christchurch City Council external panel of professional engineers delivering reviews of residential building consents.
