Davis Ogilvie (DO) is pleased to share that Engineering Director Elliot Duke has been appointed an Engineering New Zealand Te Ao Rangahau Fellow, an honoured class of membership recognising highly experienced professionals who’ve made a huge impact on engineering in Aotearoa.

Elliot began his career at DO in 2002 as a graduate engineer and became one of three company directors a decade later, taking responsibility for engineering operations. Over the next 10 years, he led a major transformation of our engineering capability, growing the team to over 60 and expanding services to include civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental and water engineers, and environmental scientists.

A Chartered Professional Engineer with more than 20 years’ experience, Elliot has worked a huge range of projects. He’s also advised councils and national panels, contributed to major earthquake and flood responses, and acted as an expert witness in High Court cases. Alongside this, he’s been a mentor and leader for many of us.

Elliot has been awarded the Fulton Downer Gold Medal twice, which recognises exceptional service to engineering and outstanding commitment to advancing the profession. First in 2014 for services to the community, and again in 2022 as a member of Engineering NZ’s Christchurch Earthquake Expert Engineering Panel.

He also contributes his time and expertise to a range of community and environmental initiatives and champions our sponsorship of local and national not-for-profit partners, sports clubs, events and university engineering societies to support the wider community and future engineers. Elliot is also the driving force behind our sustainability initiatives, which enabled us to become one of the first multidisciplinary engineering consultancies to achieve Toitū Carbon Positive accreditation earlier this year.

Elliot has made an enormous impact on both the engineering profession and here at DO, and to many of us personally, so it’s fantastic to see him recognised by his peers and be named a Fellow.
