New Zealand map Davis Ogilvie – Engineering, Surveying and Planning

Davis Ogilvie were initially commissioned to undertake a review of existing geotechnical reports at the site of a proposed commercial development in Christchurch. The review identified some conservatism in the original geotechnical foundation recommendations in relation to pile founding depths and the extent, and compressibility of shallow organic materials which had precluded the use of shallow foundations for the floor slab.

Davis Ogilvie designed and supervised a suitable intrusive investigation to collect undisturbed samples of the organic horizon to undertake 1-D consolidation odometer testing. This was scheduled to assess the actual compressibility of the organic horizon to compare against empirically derived compressibility data from CPT data.
