The Waihao Downs Irrigation scheme is a 35km long pipe network, including two large buffer ponds in conjunction with MGI Irrigation that provides irrigation for over 27 thousand hectares of farmland. Davis Ogilvie (Aoraki) Ltd was commissioned by the client to undertake the survey work for the scheme. This included a Land Transfer (LT) subdivision for each of the buffer ponds, as well as defining all of the easement parcels required to provide legal protection over the infrastructure. All LT data sets involved using very old, rural cadastral work, which made the definition of parcels a challenge. Through consultation with Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and a collaborative approach to problem solving, the DO team found the solutions necessary to meet the client’s requirements.
